Regina Osburn

I have lived in Cherry County for almost 20 years. My husband Jay Dee was born and raised in Valentine. Together we have 2 children and couldn’t imagine a better place to raise them than in the Sandhills of Nebraska. I am proud to serve the community as Cherry County Tourism Director and look forward to seeing you, so, visit soon!

Meet Our Board:

Joan Rupe

Joan and her husband John, raised in North Central Nebraska, chose to come back to the Sandhills area many years ago.  The peaceful environment of the hills has been a valuable education for their family. Joan and John have owned and managed Trade Winds Motel for 30 years. Paying attention to every detail of their business, they offer old-fashioned country hospitality, to all travelers.


Greg Nollett

Greg Nollette is a fifth generation descendent of the founder of the little town of Nenzel. He and his wife have 4 daughters and 12 grandchildren. He is a retired agricultural education instructor and taught in Cherry County for several years. Greg is co-owner and vintner of Niobrara Valley Vineyards and Winery south of Nenzel, NE. Niobrara Valley Vineyards is a farm winery which grows eleven different varieties of grapes and make fifteen different wines. The wines are hand crafted from the vine to the glass. Wine is offered for sale in over 50 different retail outlets in the state of NE and through VinoShipper in 38 states.


John Davenport

Jon T. Davenport has lived in Cherry County since he came to Valentine in the 1970’s  for the purpose of building and administrating the new Cherry County Hospital, after completing the Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Following his tenure in Hospital Administration he became involved in Tourism by building and owning Merritt Trading Post and Water’s Edge Restaurant near Merritt Reservoir, in addition to Branched Oaks and Pawnee Concessions near Lincoln. Jon is one of the original members of the Cherry County Tourism Board. He and wife, Marian have two married children, Darcy (Mike) and Tod (Christina) and five grandchildren. The couple has been actively involved in all levels of volunteering in the community and area. His love of the Sandhills is evident with every conversation, as he is a perpetual promoter of the great outdoors and all that is available to visitors.


Rich Mercure

Rich Mercure is a 4th generation Sandhiller. After college he spent a few years managing a small Nebraska retail business but then soon after bought Little Outlaw Canoe Outfitters in Valentine. He was appointed by the governor and serves as the recreation industry representative for the Niobrara Council which co-manages the Niobrara National Scenic River. Along with the Little Outlaw Canoe Rentals, Rich is joined in partnership with Berry Bridge Campground & Penbrook Camp along the Niobrara river. Rich has been rocking it as an outfitter for over 30 yrs! He and his wife, Marla, love to travel, camp and fish. He also likes to participate in Cowboy Fast Draw shooting events. Rich has two grown children, Sam and Jordan. He and his family feel lucky to be able to experience the scenic Niobrara River Valley almost every day.
